What makes winter term at Deerfield, winter term at Deerfield? Early sunsets, quiet nights at the Dining Hall, and aimlessly roaming around the Athletic Center on Saturday nights are only just a few things that come to mind when considering the characteristics that define winter term. However, nothing screams Deerfield winter quite like the casual dress code. New looks spring up around campus with each dropping degree, whether it’s a college hoodie paired with gray sweatpants or denim with a cardigan. Each outfit speaks volumes to its wearer, and so without further ado, here’s what your winter dress choice says about you.
The Sweater with Jeans:
If you are a frequent sweater and jeans wearer, you secretly miss class dress. In your opinion, nothing makes you feel more put together than a well-planned outfit. When discussing the pros and cons of class dress vs. casual dress with friends, you probably say, “Dressing nicely helps me feel more productive during class.” Additionally, there is a high chance that you are someone with “good style” and like to showcase your fun wardrobe despite the lack of a dress code mandating you to.
Athleisure:
If athleisure is your go-to during the winter, it is more likely than not that you are a member of one of Deerfield’s varsity teams at some point during the school year. You’re never afraid to sport your team’s merchandise, such as an embroidered sweatshirt or pants with your name and number stitched in. If sports aren’t really your thing but you’re still a big fan of athleisure, you’re often spotted in Alo, Lululemon, and other brands alike. Conventional meets cute at athleisure and it’s your way of staying warm in these cold months.
Sweats and a Hoodie:
If your wardrobe mainly consists of a hoodie and sweatpants during Deerfield’s period of casual dress, you value simplicity. School isn’t necessarily a fashion show for you and, instead, you find that comfort helps you better enjoy class. You know that there are ways to dress up and dress down a classic hoodie, or you may just think that a hoodie is just a hoodie. Outfits showcasing the sweats and a hoodie come in an array of looks; nonetheless, it is an outfit choice to consider when you’re looking to wear something for a comfortable day of class.
The “Just Rolled out of Bed.”
We’ve all been there. The morning alarm doesn’t go off. The time reads something past 8:30 AM. The next few minutes become a scramble to get ready for the day. This task requires an extra step in the fall and spring: changing into class dress. However, this is no problem during winter term as the easy solution is just rolling out of bed. So to spare time, your routine looks more like a quick trip to the bathroom to brush your teeth and walk out the door dressed in whatever you went to bed the night before. It’s no big deal; what you wear is essentially the same as a sweatshirt and hoodie. You definitely look presentable. Right?
