Here are some arts recommendations to rejuvenate your mind and add to your playlists/watch lists/reading lists.
Movies:
Grand Budapest Hotel directed by Wes Anderson (Shogo O’Connor ’25). It’s beautiful, artsy, pleasing to the eye, and best of all, it’s symmetrical.
Fight Club directed by David Fincher (Billy Tang ’25). It’s surreal, very uncomfortable, and mind-bending.
The Royal Tenenbaums directed by Wes Anderson (Margaret Melnik ’24). Featuring a highly dysfunctional yet wholesome family.
TV:
Search Party on HBO (History & Social Science Teacher John Lim). A group of Millennials look for a missing friend. It’s a comedy, drama, and mystery.
Gilmore Girls (Emily Bruno ’25). It’s cute, small town, and intensely fall.
What We Do In The Shadows on Hulu (Science Teacher Caleb Corliss). Where a bunch of idiot vampires share a house.
Songs:
“Away From The Castle” by Video Age (Math Teacher Alexandra Newlon). It’s bubbly, indie, and makes good use of instruments.
“Since You Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson (Xavier Armas ’24). It’s homey, heartwarming, and nostalgic.
“Alien” by Lee Suhyun (Emma Wilmott ’24). It’s got great vibes – a perfect listen no matter the mood.
Books:
Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman (Diego Soto Lopez ’24 ). It’s raw desire captured in pages, and a touching read coupled with an acclaimed movie adaptation.
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (Director of the Library Mr. Carroll). It’s a digestible funny read featuring a slovenly character who thinks too highly of himself.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Nainika Lebaka ’24). It’s beautifully vulnerable and terrifically quirky.
