She has faded floral prints, plaids, crochet lace, and dozens of pairs of worn-looking sneakers and boots jammed into her closet. As a shopper of the classic and well-known stores such as Urban Outfitters and American Eagle, she also finds items from “random stores in Argentina,” as well as thrift stores.
Though we may not agree on all of the ideas and practices that make Deerfield unique, an open conversation moves us in the right direction.
As a result of students’ collective action through a petition, and emails from both parents and students to the Deans’ Office, controversial changes to the dress code were retracted on Monday, August 22.
Not only are the days a part of a “stress free” winter initiated by the peer counselors, but the days are one of the few times students are permitted to dress casually for class.
The debate over the girls’ dress code consumes too much of our time…
“I simply think that girls’ class dress is vague and hard to follow. So until we come up with a better solution, I’m merely providing an alternative that adheres to the rules while taking the emphasis off fancy clothes during the academic day…”
