How long have you been at Deerfield?

This is my 27th year.

What brought you to Deerfield?

I knew that I wanted to teach highschool students and I wanted to be in a place that would allow me to teach the kind of courses I like… Asia and World History, U.S-China Relations, and The History of Opium.

What is your favorite Deerfield tradition?

Singing together on Sunday nights.

Did you make any New Years resolutions?

To get outside more.

What’s your favorite restaurant to get take out from in the area?

Ginger Garden.

Any Netflix recommendations?

Money Heist, original Spanish with subtitles.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would go back to Nepal.

As a teacher, what’s one tip you have for highschool students?

Stop thinking so much about grades and really lean into the educational experience.

What’s one thing students do that you would consider a pet peeve as a teacher?

Starting a sentence with “wait.”

What’s the last thing that happened that made you genuinely laugh or smile?

Watching my students compete to put together a silly puzzle.
